Progress in reducing emissions 2024 - Report to Parliament
At Glad we’re focused on helping businesses fix climate change by contributing to cleaning the atmosphere.
When it comes to fixing climate change there are - broadly speaking - two ways we can improve things:
- Reduce emissions to zero - to stop things getting worse
- Remove emissions that we've been pumping into the atmosphere since the start of the industrial revolution - to clean up the mess we've already made
Glad’s focus is on the later way of improving things; removal. Not because reduction isn’t needed, but because it’s not enough on it’s own to help us get back to “safe” levels of CO2 in our atmosphere.
We passed safe levels of CO2 in the atmosphere in 1988, and we’ve consistently increased global emissions every year since.
Reducing emissions year on year until we hit net zero is hugely important, but it won’t do anything about the already unsafe levels of CO2 in the atmosphere today.
Reduction is still has a hugely important part to play in fixing climate change.
The Climate Change Committee recently published their 2024 report to Parliament outlining the UK’s progress on reducing emissions and outlining their recommendations for how the government can act to ensure we meet our reduction commitments.
If you’re interested in how we can and should accelerate our reduction efforts, the video below gives a really good overview of the report and progress to date.
